Our Ikea High Chair Makeover

A highchair with copper legs, white tray, and cactus printed cushion stands in front of a grey wallAlright, this is hardly a “how-to” as it’s pretty self-explanatory and we’re hardly the first to do it: but look how pretty!

We’re starting our baby-led weaning* journey this weekend and while I loooooooved the idea of getting a handmade high chair crafted from sustainably harvested wood, the maternity leave budget just wouldn’t allow it.

The Antilop high chair is popular with parents for being cheap as chips and easy to hose down. You can often find them secondhand in charity shops or on Gumtree, so that’s a great way to reduce the impact, at least.

We spruced ours up with a couple coats of Rustoleum Elegant Metallic spray paint on the legs and a pretty cushion cover from The Pigeon’s Nest on Etsy.

I love how it looks now – a bit more grown up and in fitting with our decor. I actually like how it looks a lot more than most of the expensive high chairs out there.

Peter’s been practicing sitting in it and whacking the tray. I can’t wait to see what he thinks of food!

I really enjoy seeing what other people are feeding their babies for BLW so I think I’ll start a “What Peter Eats” series, if you’re interested.
